On Wednesday, January 5, 2011 The Pearlstine Family was honored for their involvement in the community and ongoing philanthropic contributions . Receiving the Francis Salvador award was shared not only with Edwin Pearlstine but with his entire family.
“Not only does he contribute to the community, but his children and grandchildren also contribute.” Mr. Pearlstine believes “it’s very important to pass what [he's] learned from his parents from generation to generation”. “In so many families, as the generations die off, the philosophy of giving and helping others also dies.” The synagogue gives the award in recognition of vision and leadership when the board of trustees decides to give it — which by coincidence has been every other year — and this is the first time it has been awarded to a congregation member. Past honorees are Charleston Mayor Joe Riley (2006) and Judge Alex Sanders (2008).

Thank you for taking time to comment, Donnie! We are so happy to be a part of your career/extended family, as much as you have been for us. So glad to hear from you and we wish you all the best.
What a wonderful family. This video is lovely!
Which synagogue did you have the interior shot of? It’s truly beautiful!

My father and uncle (Stewart and Lance Nilsen) worked for Pearlstine’s for many years. On the eve of Hurricane Hugo, our family car broke down on I-26. Dad called “the plant” on told them about it on an old bag phone. (Thank goodness we had one). Mr. Edwin Pearlstine leant us his personal vehicle so our family could safely evacuate to Columbia. We’ll never forget it! I’ll also never forget the many family get-togethers the company held each year to thank employees. What a deserving family for this award! Thanks to the Pearlstine’s for making my Dad and Uncle and both of their families thankful employees for so many years!
